Fever Advice Strep A

Parents across the UK are being urged to look out for symptoms of strep A infection in their children after health officials revealed a rise in cases had led to the death of six youngsters.

The UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) issued a rare alert on Friday evening after a rise in cases across the country, telling parents to seek medical help as soon as possible if they detect signs in their children, in order to stop the infection becoming serious.

Symptoms include a sore throat, fever and minor skin infections. In most cases, people can be treated with antibiotics and make a full recovery. In rare cases, however, strep A can become a serious illness, and anyone with high fever, severe muscle aches, pain in one area of the body and unexplained vomiting or diarrhoea should seek urgent medical help.

Respiratory & Asthma

Get moving this Clean Air Day with our walking playlist

There are many things we can do to decrease air pollution, and this Clean Air Day we are focusing on one of the most impactful actions of walking short distance trips and leaving the car at home, where possible.

On top of getting your heart pumping and making you feel more energetic, walking can also lower your risk of serious illnesses like heart disease and type 2 diabetes. Plus it’s free! A simple action like walking can help to reduce air pollution which will have massive benefits to your health and the planet.

Try walking to school, work or the shops this Clean Air Day!

The facts

A quarter of trips are under 1 mile in England. On average, people walk one mile in 15 minutes – that is the equivalent of listening to about five of your favourite songs.

See how long your regular journeys take to walk and incorporate it into your daily routine. By walking these short journeys instead of driving it could save £16m in fuel and the population would burn an additional 3.6billion calories (to say nothing of the improvement to air quality).

Get involved – music to walk to

This Clean Air Day, take steps to improve your health. Walk those short distance trips, where you can and have fun while doing it!

Pick 5 tunes for your 1 mile playlist. For inspiration, search for the ”Clean Air Day” playlist on Spotify.

Respiratory

Our respiratory clinics are primarily intended for patients with Asthma and COPD.

Asthma is caused by inflammation of the airways. These are the small tubes, called bronchi, which carry air in and out of the lungs. If you have asthma, the bronchi will be inflamed and more sensitive than normal. Our practice nurses have specialist asthma qualifications. During their clinics they monitor your overall condition, offer advice, answer any queries and ensure your treatment is effective.

Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is the name for a collection of lung diseases including chronic bronchitis, emphysema and chronic obstructive airways disease. People with COPD have trouble breathing in and out. This is referred to as airflow obstruction. Breathing difficulties are caused by long-term damage to the lungs, usually because of smoking.

Asthma and COPD Clinics

We hold clinics to diagnose and to help patients to manage their asthma or COPD.

We like to see all our patients who have been diagnosed with these conditions at least once a year, depending on the severity of your condition, we may invite you to come to the clinic more often in order to ensure we give you the care you require.
